[An Orange Cat]

by Nick Maione

     An orange cat
                      in the chapel
                  breaks for the altar,
         is scooped into robes

it’s the heart makes what you love
a textile for the winter

	 in the night
   the Chama canyon
    falls into itself
      rhythmical breathing
	 swaddled in stars

 	in the morning
      still asleep in the sagebrush—
         a newborn invitation
to cry like a mountain lion
