whitebaiting

by Iain Britton

in a perfect world snakes eat apples

i don’t mind the rain—
don’t mind you stretched out
on wet grass blinking through Easter homilies
consuming what’s supposedly good

the special effects department has surpassed itself
umbrellas float with clouds / chairs
resemble people / in a perfect world
sons return like whitebait to their mothers
