Lia Purpura’s most recent collection of essays is Rough Likeness (Sarabande, 2011). Her awards include a Guggenheim, National Endowment for the Arts, and Fulbright fellowships, and three Pushcart prizes. On Looking (Sarabande, 2006) was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Her poems and essays appear in The New Yorker, New Republic, Paris Review, and elsewhere. She is Writer in Residence at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
