Ya Shi

Ya Shi 哑石 grew up in the Tuanbu Village Commune in China’s Sichuan province. He graduated from Beijing University with a mathematics degree in 1987. He began writing poetry in 1990, and won the Liu Li'an Poetry Prize in 2007. He is now the author of six books; his first collection in English translation is titled Floral Mutter, available from Zephyr Press and winner of a PEN/Heim translation grant. Today, he lives outside Chengdu with his family, where he teaches mathematics at the Southwest University of Finance and Economics.
