Mahmoud Darwish

Mahmoud Darwish (1941–2008) was the most prominent Palestinian poet of his generation. His writings have been translated into more than thirty languages, and his English translations include Almond Blossoms and Beyond (Interlink Books, 2009), The Butterfly’s Burden (Copper Canyon, 2006), Why Did You Leave the Horse Alone? (Archipelago Books, 2006), Unfortunately, It Was Paradise: Selected Poems (University of California Press, 2003), and The Adam of Two Edens (Syracuse University Press, 2001). He was recipient of numerous awards including the Lannan Foundation Prize for Cultural Freedom and the Lenin Peace Prize.
